“When we became involved just over a year ago, the previous owners had entered into a CVA with the club’s creditors. A payment of 47 pence in the pound had been agreed. This was simply not affordable for the club and we therefore renegotiated a settlement of the CVA, which resulted in the club being able to continue to play football in the football pyramid, albeit one division lower.

“I was not prepared to leave the club in a CVA for a second close season with all the uncertainty that came with it. I therefore put a deadline for a negotiated settlement of the last Friday of the season. HM Customs and Excise (The Revenue) controlled the CVA by voting rights, and we had reached a stalemate over the level of settlement. Indeed, The Revenue did not want to settle at all. However, at the eleventh hour, we got to the point where we were £50,000 apart, but we simply did not have the money to pay the extra that The Revenue were insisting on. I therefore agreed two deferred payments of £25,000 (the first to be paid October 2008 and the second in April 2009).

“The Trust have raised some of the money (around £5,000), but the first payment is looming and I therefore call upon all fans to help us raise the balance of £20,000. I know this is a massive ask, but as I said when we became involved, we cannot do this on our own. To date we have committed around £1 million to get the club this far, and with the housing market in its current state we cannot commit any more (other than the many hours that Neil and I are putting in at the present time).

“It really is a time for the fans and businesses of Boston and the surrounding area to show how much the club means to them and the town. All donations will help, no matter how small. Please help us secure the future of this historic football club, and vital important community facility.

“We really are making progress with the club, and our youth and community projects continue despite having further funding cuts. Please do not let all that hard work be in vain — please donate and donate now.

“Thanks for your support and together we can make it a bright future at York Street.”
